Keystone Training Stress Detox

Using a holistic approach to decrease overall stress.
Based loosely on the Canine Emotional Detox (CED) by Diane Garrod, we've been using our Stress Detox program successfully with clients since 2016.

Our Stress Detox program is the first step in most behaviour modification programs and seeks to address issues such as:
hyperactivity
overarousal
fear and anxiety
hypervigilance
restlessness
lack of confidence
Throughout the Stress Detox program, owners learn how to identify signs of stress in their dogs (even the subtle ones), how to manage their dogs during times of stress, how to manage their dog's exposure to stressful situations and events, and finally, how to use behaviour modification techniques to address the underlying emotions that lead to stress and anxiety.
Stress has an accumulative effect on the body and mind, also known as trigger stacking.
Trigger stacking, over time, can lead to a number of problems both physically (digestive upset, increased respiration, etc) and mentally (lack of concentration, hypervigilance, etc).
Before any behaviour modification is started we must first allow our dogs to return to their baseline level of arousal and alertness, without all the trigger stacking.
Once this baseline, or close to it, is achieved, then we can begin employing behaviour modification protocols.
Over the years we have noticed common trends among owners who participate in this program.
Owners are often shocked to discover several small stressors in their dogs day to day lives.
Owners can begin to see how these minor stressors contribute to their dog's overall mental and physical wellbeing.
Owners are able to better read their dogs and gauge their dog's emotional state more effectively, thus allowing them to make changes to keep their dogs feeling comfortable and safe.
In all behaviour modification programs, we are happy to work alongside our clients' Veterinarians to ensure their dog is getting the best care to meet all their individual needs.
Some of the topics we cover are:
What is Stress?
Trigger Stacking
Thresholds
States of Arousal
Management
Counter Conditioning and Desensitization
Food Choices for Behaviour Modification
Canine Body Language
And More!
Our Behaviour Modification programs are available both in-person and virtually online. Virtual training allows owners to access quality training and support, regardless of their location. See our program options here.
