Shaping Behavior

Free shaping is beneficial for a number of reasons:
  • Builds your dogs confidence
  • Strengthens the human-canine bond
  • Helps burn energy
  • Encourages your dog to think for him/herself
  • Builds problem solving skills
Free shaping can be done using a clicker, treats/dog food and a variety of objects.
Your objective going into a training session should be simply to reward your dog for thinking on their own.
Sessions are best kept short (5-10 minutes), and you do not need to give any commands or cues (unless to 'reset' your dog or if you intend to put a specific behavior on cue).

Keystone Training uses positive reinforcement methods to help dog owners teach their dogs basic commands, manners, and tricks.
