1000 Treat Challenge Pt 2

Full Disclosure: I have not been very consistent. I knew when I started that this would probably be the case, hence why I never made a solid schedule or time frame to complete The Challenge in.

That does not matter. What does matter is that we are trying :)

In the past week we have worked on behaviours that Symka does know. This helps to increase the reinforcement history of behaviours that are sometimes neglected or forgotten about.

The biggest one is probably giving her eye drops. She does not require eye drops, she never has. It's something I taught her NOW so that if she ever does need them it's not a fight. You can see a video tutorial on how I taught it. Part 1 and Part 2.

Next would be mouth exams.Video here.
This recently came in handy when she got a bone stuck in her mouth!!
The mouth exams and eye drops are exercises that will be practised throughout her life in order to keep them in tip-top shape.

I wanted to work on Recall (calling a dog to come to you) during our challenge. We practice just about every day around the house but very rarely spend a lot of time off leash outside in the winter. Yesterday was melting and we just got a new batch of fresh snow over the weekend.
It was the perfect time to see if our lack of practice over the winter had any ill effects on Symkas reliability.
Of the dozen or so times I called her only once did she blow me off (she was sniffing, I should know better than to call her when her nose is distracted!!!).
I have to say that I am quite proud of my scenthound. Her recall was pretty fantastic!

The next area we've been focusing on lately is teaching Symka to file her own nails. She already knows how to do the front ones. Video here.
Part of The Treat Challenge has been to teach her to scratch her back feet on a nail file board.
